Legal
Terms of Service
The agreement for using NotePetal and its paid features.
Operator and agreement
NotePetal is operated by Alexandru Grecu, an individual in Romania, using the name NotePetal ("we," "us," or "our"). These Terms govern the website, notebook editor, imports, exports, sharing, accounts, and paid AI and OCR features. By using NotePetal, creating an account, or buying a plan, you agree to these Terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we process personal information. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the service.
Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter a binding agreement. Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and notify us promptly of suspected unauthorized use. Do not impersonate someone or share accounts to bypass limits. If using NotePetal for an organization, you must have authority to accept these Terms on its behalf.
Using NotePetal
Subject to these Terms, you have a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to use NotePetal for lawful personal or internal business purposes. This does not transfer ownership of our software or branding. Do not bypass security, billing, access controls, or usage limits. You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy.
Your material and outputs
You retain your rights in content you create or upload. You give us permission to store, process, transform, display, and export that material only as needed to provide the features you choose, including requests to the disclosed AI and OCR providers. You are responsible for having the necessary rights to upload, process, and share files, text, figures, and handwriting fonts.
Using NotePetal does not grant rights to third-party material. Generated output may resemble other material, and we cannot guarantee that it is unique, copyrightable, or free of third-party rights. Sharing a notebook makes it accessible to anyone with the share link until you revoke it. See the Copyright Policy.
Paid plans and Polar billing
Prices, features, and allowances are shown on the Plans page and at checkout. Pro is a recurring monthly subscription. Polar is the merchant of record and handles checkout, payment collection, applicable sales tax and VAT, invoices, subscription administration, and approved refunds. The purchase terms presented by Polar at checkout apply to your transaction. Listed prices exclude VAT and sales tax unless stated otherwise; checkout shows the total.
Manage or cancel renewal from Usage & plan through the Polar billing portal. Cancellation normally leaves paid access available until the end of the paid period shown there. Ending Pro does not delete your account or notebooks, but Free limits apply afterward. You may need to reduce stored material before creating or uploading more.
AI and OCR allowances are usage limits, not cash or transferable credits. Monthly usage resets by calendar month in UTC, as shown in Usage & plan; it may differ from the subscription renewal date. Unused allowance does not roll over. Work already dispatched to a provider may consume allowance even if you cancel it. Refund requests follow the Refund Policy.
AI, OCR, and review
AI generation and OCR are optional processing features described in the AI & Upload Policy. Transcripts, generated notes, study cards, formulas, and figures can contain errors or omissions. Review them against your source before relying on or sharing them. NotePetal does not provide professional advice, and output must not be the sole basis for a decision where an error could cause serious harm.
Availability and changes
NotePetal is under active development. We may change features and limits or interrupt the service for maintenance, security, or provider failures. Keep independent copies of important material. Material changes to an existing paid plan will be communicated where required, and mandatory consumer rights continue to apply.
Suspension and account deletion
You can stop using NotePetal, cancel a subscription, or request account deletion in Settings. Export anything you want to keep before deleting it. We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect users, address non-payment or abuse, comply with law, or enforce these Terms. Where practical, we will explain the reason and allow you to respond; urgent risks may require immediate action.
Disclaimers and liability
To the extent permitted by law, NotePetal is provided "as is" and "as available," without a guarantee of uninterrupted operation, error-free results, or preservation of every file. Nothing here excludes a warranty, remedy, or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or loss of data. For claims that can legally be limited, aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid for NotePetal during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where applicable law prohibits them.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Romanian law. You retain any mandatory consumer protections in your country of habitual residence. The courts of Dolj County, Romania have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting a consumer's right to use another court available under mandatory law. Contact us first so we can try to resolve a concern.
Changes to these Terms
We update the date and version when these Terms change. Where required, material changes will be communicated with appropriate notice or renewed acceptance. Updated Terms apply from their stated effective date, subject to your mandatory rights.
