Imports and ordinary editing

Uploads include PDFs, Word files, images, pasted text, and handwriting fonts you submit to NotePetal. Files and notebook data in a cloud account are processed on our servers and stored through Supabase. "Keep my wording" and ordinary text extraction do not require an AI generation request; this does not mean that cloud account files remain only on your device.

What an AI action sends

When you request study notes, organization, revisions, or study materials, NotePetal sends relevant approved source text, source references, instructions, and notebook context needed for that action through OpenRouter to the configured model provider. A request can include the full approved text for the selected notebook; it does not send your entire notebook library.

What OCR sends

When you opt in to scan recognition, NotePetal sends the submitted image or PDF to Mistral's hosted OCR service. A page selection tells the service which PDF pages to recognize, but the request can carry the full PDF. Remove pages or redact information before uploading if you do not want the provider to receive it. Recognized text is returned and stored with your notebook for review.

Providers and data use

NotePetal does not use your notebook content to train models. OpenRouter generation requests require a zero data retention route and restrict routing to the configured provider without automatic provider fallback. Generation requests are configured to reject providers that collect user content for training. Mistral OCR is a separate service with its own terms and retention rules; the OpenRouter routing settings do not apply to OCR.

The Subprocessors page identifies the configured services. We retain metering information such as model identifiers, token counts, cost, request status, and provider request references, together with saved output needed for your notebook. Provider processing is subject to the relevant agreements and account settings; a routing setting does not remove the need to review what you submit.

Permissions and sensitive data

You keep your rights in your content and must have the right to upload and process third-party material. Do not submit passwords, tokens, full payment details, government identifiers, or other secrets. NotePetal is not intended for sensitive or regulated personal data, including health records, biometric information, precise location data, or children's personal data. Redact confidential and personal information before submitting material. Follow the Acceptable Use Policy.

Review the result

AI and OCR can omit, misread, or invent information. Check transcripts, notes, tables, formulas, figures, and study cards against the original material. Output is not professional advice or a substitute for your own review. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for legal, medical, financial, safety, or other decisions where an error could cause serious harm. Provider work may consume your allowance even if you cancel after dispatch or choose not to use the result.
